'Osun Monarch' Arrested For Fraud

Sixty-two-year-old Michael Oladeji was on Thursday arraigned before an Osun State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikire for allegedly parading himself as the monarch of Ogbaaga, a town in the Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state.
The police prosecutor, Ayodele Oladiran, said Oladeji claimed that he was the traditional ruler of Ogbaaga, but the person recognised as the town’s monarch by the Osun State Government was Ekanade Amusan.

The four counts preferred against the accused read in part, “That you Michael Oyelowo Oladeji, between January 2016 and 2019 in the Ikire Magisterial District did falsely represent yourself to be the Ologbaaga of Ogbaaga in the Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.

According to him, the offences contravene sections 516, 517, 484 and 249 (D) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

Oladeji pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His counsel, J. E. Adeboye, applied for bail on his behalf.

Ruling on the application, Magistrate A. A. Ayeni committed the accused to bail and adjourned the matter till July 24.
