Also known as Dem Mama Soldier, Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa and Don Papi Chulo, the Odi, Bayelsa State indigene has won notable awards for his work. His trophy cabinet includes four Headies Awards, two AFRIMMA Awards, one Nigeria Music Award and an NEA Award.
The founder of the record label, DM Records Limited, Timaya has gone on to groom artistes like Patoranking, Runtown and King Perryy to his imprint.
Timaya has a lot to show that he has truly succeeded as an artiste – from palatial mansions to luxury SUVs and exotic supercars. Like most artistes in his league, Timaya has kept on adding to his garage collection. In December 2018, just a few days to Christmas, the artiste announced the purchase of a black Maybach car.
“[I] had to spoil myself a little [with a] Maybach,” he said on his verified Instagram page, @timayatimaya. At the time, the ‘Dem Mama’ crooner also got a black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon alongside the Maybach.
About the Maybach
The Maybach was founded in 1909 by German engineer Wilhelm Maybach and his son, until 1960 when the brand was acquired by Daimler AG, which makes Mercedes-Benz cars.
Mercedes-Benz left the Maybach as a standalone ultra-luxury brand and was the delight of world and business leaders as well as celebrities. However, due to slow sales and the financial crisis of 2007-2008, Maybach ceased to be a standalone brand in 2013 and in 2015 became a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz. In 2018, Daimler AG produced an ultra-luxury edition of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class under the Mercedes-Maybach name.
Timaya did not specify which model of the Maybach he bought, but it looked mostly like the Maybach 57 whose production discontinued in 2013.
Rolls-Royce and Bentley are the traditional ultra-luxury marques, but when you look back into history, the Maybach name pops up. Smooth, quiet, and fast, Maybachs seem to defy physics with their road-going capabilities.
Behind the wheel or ensconced in the back, there isn’t a bad seat. Zeppelin models have 631-hp. Along with a redesigned front end, S models add 16 more horsepower for a total of 620.
Costing around $300,000 (N92m), the Maybach 57 is mechanically identical to its longer sibling, the 62, featuring an Airmatic DC suspension, an electronic braking system and a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V-12 engine that produces an astounding 543 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
Mercedes said the 57 could rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, 0.2 second quicker than the 62. While the 57 doesn’t feature the reclining and extending rear seats like the 62, it has a TV/DVD entertainment system in the rear, a 21-speaker Bose Everywhere Dolby surround sound system, four-zone climate control and multi-contour seats for all passengers.
All Maybach 57s are built precisely to each customer’s specifications, allowing them to choose, among other amenities, leather and wood trim and a monochromatic or two-tone paint scheme.
Approximately 1,000 Maybachs are said to be built each year in Sindelfingen, Germany, with nearly half being sold in the United States.
